Afrobeat musician Femi Kuti has revealed that he told his first wife, Funke Kuti, before their marriage that he would struggle to remain faithful to one woman.

The 64-year-old musician made the disclosure during an interview with Channels Television, where he spoke about his relationship with his former wife and his approach to marriage at the time.

Femi Kuti said he was open with Funke about his lifestyle before they got married, explaining that he loved women and did not believe he could commit exclusively to one partner.

According to the award-winning musician, his decision to marry was also influenced by his desire for his children to have access to British passports.

“I told my first wife before we got married that I love women and could never be faithful to just one woman. I only married her so my children could get a British passport,” Femi said.

Femi Kuti and Funke Kuti had one child together, Omorinmade Kuti, popularly known as Made Kuti, who was born in 1995.

The marriage eventually ended in divorce after several years.

Femi Kuti on Nigeria’s Political Problems

The revelation comes shortly after Femi Kuti also offered his views on Nigeria’s political challenges.

In a recent episode of the Good News Naija podcast, the musician reportedly argued that President Bola Tinubu is not the major problem confronting Nigeria.

Femi instead identified the judiciary as what he considers to be the country’s main problem, adding to his longstanding commentary on governance, politics and social issues in Nigeria.
