Sensitive materials for Saturday’s Osun State governorship election have arrived at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) facility in Osogbo ahead of their distribution to the state’s 30 local government areas. The materials, transported from Abuja in trucks, were being offloaded at the CBN on Thursday as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) intensified preparations for the August 15 governorship election.

Although distribution was initially scheduled to commence at 8:00 a.m., the process experienced delays, with offloading still ongoing as of about 9:50 p.m. The delay followed INEC’s decision to reprint ballot papers after complying with a Federal High Court judgment that ordered the inclusion of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate, increasing the number of contestants from 14 to 15.

Following the completion of the offloading exercise, the sensitive materials—including ballot papers, result sheets and other electoral documents—will be distributed to the 30 local government areas before deployment to polling units across the state. The arrival of the materials comes less than 48 hours before eligible voters head to the polls to elect Osun State’s next governor, with election authorities assuring residents of their readiness for a credible electoral process.
