Former Kano State Governor and leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has denied reports claiming that he endorsed the alleged defection of Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Kwankwaso described the claims as false, misleading and politically motivated.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Kwankwaso said he has neither held discussions nor given approval for Governor Yusuf to leave the NNPP for any other political party. He stressed that the governor remains a committed member of the NNPP and continues to enjoy the full support of the party’s leadership and supporters in Kano State.

The former presidential candidate warned against the spread of unverified information, noting that such rumours are often circulated to create confusion and weaken the party’s growing influence. According to him, there is no crisis within the NNPP leadership that could warrant such a move by the governor.
Kwankwaso also reaffirmed his political alliance with Governor Yusuf, describing their relationship as built on shared ideals and a collective commitment to good governance. He urged party members and the general public to disregard reports suggesting any plan of defection.
Meanwhile, sources within the Kano State Government have also dismissed the defection rumours, insisting that Governor Yusuf remains focused on delivering his campaign promises rather than engaging in political distractions.
