The Nigeria Police have dismissed claims by Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, that one of his aides was unlawfully detained, insisting that the individual in question deliberately went into hiding to evade lawful arrest. Police authorities described the allegation as misleading and capable of eroding public trust in security institutions.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the police said no aide of the governor is currently in their custody, contrary to reports suggesting illegal detention. According to the force, the aide was invited for questioning over an ongoing investigation but failed to honour the invitation and subsequently became unreachable.

The police further accused the governor’s camp of attempting to politicise a routine security matter, stressing that no law enforcement agency would detain anyone without due process. “The individual was never arrested or detained. He chose to disappear after learning he was being sought for questioning,” the statement said.
Reacting to the development, police authorities urged public office holders to verify facts before making public accusations, warning that unfounded claims could incite public tension and undermine the rule of law. They reaffirmed their commitment to operating within constitutional limits and respecting citizens’ rights.
The controversy has continued to generate reactions within political circles in Osun State, with observers calling for restraint and transparency from all parties as investigations into the matter continue.
