Oba James Saliu Supports Government’s Security Efforts

The Ologere of Ogere, Oba James Obafemi Saliu, has officially handed over two newly constructed security outposts to the Southwest Security Network (Amotekun) and the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN). The facilities, built at strategic locations within the Ogere-Remo community in Ogun East Senatorial District, were donated to support security operations in the state.

The monarch’s contribution aligns with Governor Dapo Abiodun’s commitment to enhancing security, peace, and law enforcement across Ogun State. The security outposts, worth millions of Naira, will serve as operational and administrative offices for the two security agencies, strengthening their ability to combat crime in the region.

A Call for Action in Community Security

Speaking at the handing-over ceremony, Oba Saliu emphasized that his initiative goes beyond the well-known security slogan, “If you see something, say something.” Instead, he advocated for a more proactive approach, stating:

“If you see something, do something.”

He stressed the importance of private individuals contributing to security infrastructure, rather than leaving the responsibility solely to the government. The monarch urged other influential citizens to invest in security initiatives that enhance the operational environment of security agencies, providing them with better resources and reliable information to improve their efficiency.

Previous Contributions to Community Security

Oba Saliu highlighted that his latest security donation is part of a broader effort to improve law enforcement within his community. His previous contributions include:

  • Two buildings donated to the SO-SAFE Corps and Agbekoya group.
  • An operational vehicle provided for the Police Division in Ogere.

The monarch explained that his support for security agencies stems from his belief that no meaningful development can occur without safety.

“Security is the honeycomb that continually attracts the bees of prosperity, peace, and happiness to any community,” he stated.

Government Appreciates the Monarch’s Initiative

Receiving the security outposts on behalf of the Ogun State Government, Alhaji Olarenwaju Saka, mni, the Permanent Secretary of the Bureau of Cabinet and Special Services, expressed deep appreciation for the monarch’s philanthropic efforts. He urged other well-meaning individuals in the state to follow Oba Saliu’s example in supporting security initiatives.

“Security is everyone’s business, and every positive private initiative in that direction will not go unnoticed or unappreciated,” Saka remarked.

Dignitaries Present at the Handover Ceremony

The event was attended by several high-ranking security officials, including:

  • Retired Brigadier Alade Isiaka Adedigba – Commander of Amotekun in Ogun State.
  • Edward Awolowo Ajogun – Former Ogun State Commissioner of Police and current Senior Security Consultant to the Governor.
  • The State Commander of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN).

Their presence underscored the significance of the security donation and reinforced the collaboration between traditional rulers, private citizens, and law enforcement agencies in enhancing community security.

A Model for Community Involvement in Security

Oba Saliu’s initiative serves as a model for community-driven security efforts, proving that traditional rulers and private individuals can play a crucial role in ensuring peace and safety. His dedication to protecting Ogere residents highlights the importance of collective responsibility in crime prevention.

With the new security outposts now operational, law enforcement agencies are expected to enhance their presence in Ogere, contributing to a safer and more secure environment for residents.
