Workers under the Nigeria Labour Congress in Osun State thronged the party secretariat this morning to celebrate Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election victory, as labour leader Arapasopo led colleagues in commending the electorate for returning the Accord  candidate to office.

Adeleke was declared winner of Saturday’s governorship poll by the Independent National Electoral Commission, polling 511,067 votes against 444,815 scored by his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress. The result secures the governor a fresh four-year term and keeps the seat in Accord’s hands after his 2022 victory under the PDP banner.

Speaking to NEWSWORLD at the secretariat, Arapasopo appreciated Osun workers for turning out to vote for Adeleke, describing the victory as a reflection of the confidence workers have in the governor’s leadership.

“We are not taking minimal wages again. We are taking living wages,” Arapasopo declared, signaling that labour’s demand for the new term would go beyond the statutory minimum wage benchmark to a broader push for pay that meets workers’ actual cost of living.

The governorship election, Adeleke’s second victory in the state, drew 15 political parties and was held across Osun’s 30 local government areas amid heightened security.
