The Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID) has deployed election observers, fact-checkers and analysts across all 30 local government areas of Osun State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

The field teams will be supported by 40 election, conflict, data, fact-checking and digital information experts operating from the organisation’s Election Analysis Centre, where reports from polling units, vote counting, collation and the immediate post-election period will be analysed in real time.

CJID said the deployment follows weeks of monitoring the pre-election environment, during which it identified concerns relating to political violence, vote buying, misinformation, security and electoral preparedness. According to the organisation’s Conflict Tracker, at least 34 election-related violent incidents and 18 confirmed deaths have been recorded across Osun State since May 2026.

As a result, the organisation said it would pay close attention to the safety of voters, journalists and election observers, while also monitoring the conduct of security personnel and developments in flashpoint communities.

The organisation also disclosed that its Digital Information Analysis and Data Analysis Centre (DAIDAC) would monitor online misinformation, including false claims about voting procedures, BVAS functionality, result transmission, fake election results, manipulated images and videos, security rumours and coordinated attempts to influence public perception.

CJID said its fact-checking and Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) teams would verify reports of electoral irregularities before publishing updates and would continue monitoring the post-election environment for possible violence, intimidation and misinformation.

The election observation mission, supported by the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Nigeria, forms part of CJID’s broader efforts to promote electoral accountability, information integrity, media freedom and democratic governance across West Africa.
