The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has commenced an investigation into the gruesome killing of an unidentified woman whose body was discovered inside a church premises in the Obelewo area of Osogbo, Osun State.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Ani Iniedu, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, saying police detectives visited the scene after the discovery. According to him, preliminary investigation showed that the woman had allegedly been slaughtered, while her left wrist was severed and taken away by unknown persons. The police said the motive for the killing remains unknown as investigations continue.

Iniedu said the police have commenced efforts to establish the identity of the deceased and unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident. He added that the corpse had been deposited at a hospital mortuary for autopsy, while the State Command’s Investigation Department has taken over the case. The police urged anyone with useful information that could assist investigators in identifying the victim or apprehending those responsible to come forward.
