PDP Chieftain Calls for Akpabio’s Resignation Over Allegations 

Former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kola Ologbondiyan, has urged Senate President Godswill Akpabio to step down amid allegations against him.

In a statement on Sunday, Ologbondiyan stressed that the accusations required a thorough investigation and warned that Akpabio’s continued leadership could bring disrepute to the Senate. He called on lawmakers to act if Akpabio refuses to step aside voluntarily.

Drawing parallels with past Senate leaders, he recalled how former Senate President David Mark avoided financial scandals by implementing strict financial protocols. He noted that subsequent Senate Presidents, Bukola Saraki and Ahmed Lawan, served their terms without controversy.

Ologbondiyan accused Akpabio of mishandling his position, particularly in light of recent sexual harassment allegations, which he said could further tarnish the institution’s image. He urged senators to prioritize the integrity of the Senate by ensuring Akpabio steps down for a proper investigation.

With Tuesday’s plenary session approaching, all eyes are now on the Senate to see whether Akpabio will step aside or face removal by his colleagues.
