State of Insecurity: Ondo Government Reacts
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has condemned the rising insecurity in the state, stating that Ondo will not be a haven for criminals. In response, he has vowed to mobilize all necessary resources to combat the activities of kidnappers and bandits, particularly those hiding in forests under the guise of farming.
The attacks have also prompted protests in Akure, where residents, particularly women, demanded immediate government intervention. Protesters marched to the Governor’s Office, calling for decisive action against kidnappers and herdsmen responsible for the attacks.
Rising Violence and Federal Response
The situation in Ondo has become increasingly dire, with reports indicating that at least 20 people were killed in recent coordinated attacks across four communities in Akure North【20】. The Ondo State House of Assembly has also taken action by summoning top security officials, including the Senior Special Assistant on Security Matters and the Commander of the Amotekun Corps, to address the worsening crisis【16】.
