Members of the Magnus Abe-led Rainbow Coalition met with Governor Fubara at the Rivers State Government House in Port Harcourt on Sunday. The meeting was the second engagement between the committee and the governor within two weeks, as stakeholders intensify efforts to restore political unity in the state. The committee assured that past political disagreements would not be used as a basis for victimisation or discrimination, saying all stakeholders would be treated equally under the emerging atmosphere of peace and reconciliation.

Speaking after the meeting, committee chairman Magnus Abe said significant progress had been made in the reconciliation process. Abe said the discussions were aimed at finding a lasting solution to the political crisis and informing Rivers residents of the new direction being pursued by the stakeholders. “We are all in agreement, and we have made very good progress,” he said, describing the development as a major shift in the political atmosphere of Rivers State. Abe added that the committee believed the peace being pursued was one that would bring unity, progress and prosperity to the state.

Also speaking, All Progressives Congress (APC) South-South Zonal Publicity Secretary, Dr Samuel Nwanosike, expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the meeting. Nwanosike thanked Governor Fubara for allowing the delegation to meet with him and described the latest engagement as evidence that political reconciliation was taking shape. “Today’s meeting went extraordinarily well, and it shows clearly to the people of Rivers State that the family is back; sincerely back,” he said, promising that the Rainbow Coalition would work towards delivering the dividends of democracy to the people.
