Former Osun State Governor, Chief Adebisi Akande, and former Ogun State Governor, Chief Olusegun Osoba, have reportedly advised the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, to reconsider his governorship ambition in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to sources cited by The PUNCH, the elder statesmen urged Adelabu to prioritise the broader interests of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and avoid actions that could deepen divisions within the party.

The advice was said to have been given during an interactive session held in Lagos, attended by key APC leaders from the South-West. Discussions reportedly focused on Adelabu’s political plans and their potential impact on party unity, as well as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Sources indicated that Adelabu appeared receptive to the counsel, although no official statement has been issued to confirm any change in his political ambition.
Speculation has also grown over a possible resignation from the Federal Executive Council, with reports suggesting the minister may step down to pursue the governorship race. However, this remains unconfirmed.
Adelabu, who previously contested the Oyo governorship election in 2019 under the APC and in 2023 under the Accord Party, has maintained his interest in the 2027 race. His supporters insist he remains committed to the APC despite internal party dynamics.
Meanwhile, recent political activities in the state have highlighted emerging divisions within the party. At a campaign event in Ibadan attended by key stakeholders, Senator Sharafadeen Alli—widely seen as a leading contender—drew significant support, while Adelabu and former candidate Teslim Folarin were notably absent.
Party leaders are said to be emphasizing unity and cautioning against moves that could disrupt existing arrangements in the South-West as preparations for 2027 gradually take shape.
