Former Zamfara State Governor and serving Senator, Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar, has accepted his appointment as the Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 presidential election.

Yari, who represents Zamfara West Senatorial District, expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC leadership for entrusting him with the responsibility.

The appointment was announced after Tinubu constituted the APC Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 election. Under the arrangement, President Tinubu will serve as Chairman, while Vice President Kashim Shettima will be Vice-Chairman I. Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma was appointed Secretary, while Yari will coordinate the council as Director-General.

Reacting to his appointment in a statement on Saturday, Yari described the campaign as more than an electoral contest, saying it would involve engaging Nigerians across states, languages, faiths and political divides on the future of the country.

“I accept this responsibility with deep gratitude and full seriousness.

“My sincere thanks go to President Bola Tinubu and the party for the trust placed in me, and to our party leadership for the confidence. I do not take it lightly.”

The former governor pledged to lead the campaign with discipline, unity and respect for Nigerians, saying the work would commence immediately.

Yari also urged Nigerians across political divides to choose progress over division, arguing that the APC would seek to earn the confidence of voters through its record in government rather than political rhetoric.

He concluded by expressing confidence that the party would retain the presidency in 2027.

“By the grace of God, and with the effort of us all, we will deliver victory in January 2027.”
