15,000 People Visit MMA2 Terminal Every Day, Says Bi-Courtney

Terminal 2 at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos is operated by Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL), which reported on Thursday that it receives between 10,000 and 15,000 visitors per day.

In a conversation with reporters, BASL’s chief operating officer, Remi Jibodu, revealed this.
Jibobu said that in order to accommodate more people, the government should build more infrastructure during the visit. Between 10,000 and 15,000 people, including foot traffic, enter and exit the terminal every day. “I urge the government to make sure they extend their current efforts,” he said.

Jibodu continued by praising the federal government for putting the Cape Town Convention Practice into effect last year and emphasizing that this move will help increase industry capacity.

Jibodu claims that CTC will support airlines in obtaining dry leases, which will simplify the financing of aviation equipment, lower costs, and give them more freedom to choose to use domestic crew rather than foreign workers.

“You would realize that, because it was summer, a lot of them were cheaper to get, at least at that time,” he remarked, referring to the majority of the planes that we brought in, perhaps around November or December of last year. Due to their inability to manage the lease arrangements, some airlines have been forced to return their aircraft.

“And if you look at the financial institutions in Nigeria in comparison to what is currently happening in the industry, you have interest rates of about 30 percent plus, unless you have private funds.” The inflation rate is roughly 24.7. According to Jibodu, airlines may retain their current workforce through dry leasing, which would help them train their own pilots in Nigeria, boost earnings, and hire more staff.

However, Jibodu suggested that when discussing capacity, the routes should be taken into account because some, like Lagos, Abuja, and Portharcourt, are heavily used while others are not.

Jibodu recommended that the government try to establish trade centers in different airport locations to speed up economic activity in order to offset the disparity.

In his remarks, chairman of LAAC, Idris Suleiman commended BASL, urging them to continue to sustain seamless facilitations, just as they have been doing.

Suleiman said; “passengers’ comfort is the utmost in aviation business so the terminal management in collaboration with airlines must always ensure prompt, seamless facilitations to ensure they get to their destinations on time.”
