Police Launch Investigation as Family Mourns Tragic Loss

A 58-year-old man, Adeleye Alani, has reportedly taken his own life by jumping into a well in the Ori-Osoko Community, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital. The heartbreaking incident occurred late on Tuesday, March 12, 2025.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident in an exclusive conversation with PUNCH Metro, revealing that the deceased’s brother, Adeleye Olukunle Olubunmi, reported the matter to the authorities after receiving distressing news from the victim’s wife.

How the Tragic Incident Unfolded

According to the police report, the deceased’s wife, Adetoyin Taiwo Adeleye, arrived home at around 10:30 pm on March 11, 2025, and was unable to find her husband. After searching the premises, she discovered his slippers beside the well in their compound, leading to the heartbreaking realization that he had jumped inside.

The police were immediately contacted, and officers were deployed to the scene to investigate the matter.

Police Recover Body, Urge Emotional Support

Confirming the recovery of the deceased’s body, PPRO Odutola stated:

“Upon receiving the report, police operatives were immediately mobilized to the scene, where the body was recovered, and photographic documentation was taken. The remains have been deposited at the mortuary, and an investigation is currently ongoing to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.”

While condoling with the grieving family, the Ogun State Police Command urged residents to seek emotional and psychological support during difficult times.

“The Ogun State Police Command expresses its condolences to the bereaved family and urges community members to seek emotional and psychological support during difficult times,” Odutola stated.
