Rt. Hon. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, the House of Representatives' Deputy Chief Whip, passed away. Oriyomi served as the representative for Ogun State's Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency. Oriyomi served as the representative for Ogun State’s Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency.

Akin Rotimi Jr., the House of Representatives spokesperson, signed a statement announcing her passing. The statement said, “The House of Representatives announces with great sadness the loss of Rt. Hon. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, who represented the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency of Ogun State as the Deputy Chief Whip of the House till her departure. After a brief illness, she died away earlier today, January 15, 2025.

Born on December 2, 1965, Representative Onanuga was a visionary leader, a devoted public servant, and an ardent supporter of her constituency. On the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform, she was initially elected to the House in 2019.She promoted laws to empower women and promote social welfare while she was the Chair of the House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development in the 9th Assembly.

She was re-elected in 2023 and became Deputy Chief Whip of the 10th Assembly, where she showed remarkable leadership and a steadfast dedication to legislative discipline, especially during parliamentary sessions.

Rep. Onanuga, who is affectionately referred to as “Ijaya_,” was admired by both her colleagues and constituents for her intelligence, passion, humility, and quest for greatness.Her significant contributions to Nigerian politics demonstrated her unwavering commitment to public service and her zeal for improving society.

Our deepest sympathies go out to her family, friends, coworkers, the people and government of Ogun State, especially the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North constituency, and the whole National Assembly membership. Her legacy of devotion and dedication will continue to inspire future generations as we grieve the death of this dynamic and dedicated senator whose life was dedicated to bettering the lives of Nigerians, particularly her constituents.

Her family will make an announcement about the funeral plans when the time comes. May her legacy inspire future generations and may her soul rest in eternal peace.
