The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State has signaled its readiness to reclaim political leadership in the state come 2027, amid rising public dissatisfaction with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The party’s state chairman, Chief Edward Percy Masha, voiced this resolve in a statement on Wednesday, affirming that the PDP is not only reuniting its base but also winning back the trust of disillusioned citizens.

Since assuming office six months ago, Masha has adopted a focused approach centered on reconciliation, internal cohesion, and strengthening the party’s grassroots structures. Under his stewardship, the PDP has initiated a series of consultations with influential stakeholders, which he says have reignited the party’s image as a viable and dependable political force in Kaduna.

“Despite a few defections to the APC, our focus remains on unity, restructuring, and delivering a credible alternative to the people of Kaduna,” Masha noted, dismissing the impact of recent crossovers. He credited the party’s Reconciliation Committee, chaired by Shuaibu Miqati, with healing internal fractures that once weakened the PDP’s organizational strength.

Highlighting the party’s achievements, Masha stressed that the PDP is determined to defend its existing seats in the National Assembly—including its three senatorial positions—while also expanding its reach in both the state and federal spheres. He called on members and supporters to stay resolute, pointing to growing frustration with the APC as an opportunity for political change.

Mounting Criticism of the APC-Led Government

Masha delivered a scathing critique of Governor Uba Sani’s APC administration, labelling its “Sustain Agenda” as a continuation of policies that have only aggravated the socioeconomic struggles of Kaduna residents. According to him, the APC has not only failed to address lingering issues but has also intensified them.

“Insecurity continues to plague local government areas such as Kauru, Kaura, Zangon-Kataf, Kajuru, Lere, and Birnin Gwari,” he remarked. “The government’s inability to support federal security frameworks is evident, and it’s the people who suffer most from this neglect.”

He further pointed to the ongoing strike by workers, dilapidated hospitals, and failing rural infrastructure as signs of administrative inefficiency. Masha accused the current state government of financial mismanagement, alleging that funds meant for development are being funneled into lavish ceremonies and phantom projects that never materialize.

PDP’s Proactive Strategy for 2027

In contrast to the APC’s perceived failures, Masha praised PDP lawmakers for initiating empowerment programs designed to cushion the economic hardships facing many Kaduna citizens. These interventions, he claimed, are proof that the PDP is in tune with the realities on the ground and committed to making a difference.

One of the PDP’s most strategic moves is its legal battle to overturn the positions of all 23 local government chairpersons and 255 councillors across the state. Masha argued that restoring democratic accountability at the grassroots level is essential for lasting change, and the party is pursuing this goal through legitimate judicial processes.

“Our legal team is working tirelessly to ensure that governance at the local level returns to the hands of the people through democratic means,” he said.

Public Sentiment and Political Momentum

Masha believes the time is ripe for a political transition in Kaduna. He pointed to the increasing number of residents expressing disillusionment with the APC and embracing the PDP as a sign that the electorate is ready for a new direction. According to him, the PDP’s growing momentum is not just a party affair, but a reflection of widespread public sentiment.

“Our people want change, and the PDP is ready to deliver that transformation,” he said. “We are not just preparing for elections; we are preparing to rescue Kaduna from years of stagnation and restore its potential.”

He also issued a stern warning against any attempts by the APC to manipulate the 2027 elections, saying the PDP is vigilant and will resist any such efforts through all lawful means. His message to the ruling party was clear: “Any form of electoral malpractice will be strongly resisted by a united and prepared PDP.”

Call for Unity and Resilience

As preparations begin for what promises to be a fiercely contested 2027 general election, Masha urged PDP supporters to remain united, resilient, and optimistic. He acknowledged the challenges ahead but insisted that the PDP’s renewed focus, restructured approach, and grassroots energy place it in a strong position to reclaim the governorship and reinstate its vision for Kaduna.

“We’ve learned from the past, we’re building for the future, and we’re determined to lead Kaduna into an era of prosperity and progress,” he concluded.

With three years remaining before the next electoral showdown, the PDP’s message is gaining traction. Whether this strategy will translate into actual votes remains to be seen, but one thing is certain—the party is gearing up for a political resurgence that could reshape Kaduna’s political future.
