The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has seized more than 1.3 million pills of tramadol and other opioids, alongside approximately 6,000 kilogrammes of cannabis, with a combined street value exceeding ₦3.4 billion, in intelligence-led operations across several states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The agency disclosed the seizures in a statement issued by its Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, who detailed a series of drug interdictions and arrests. Among the major recoveries was a shipment of 1,200 parcels of Canadian Loud, weighing 603.75kg and valued at ₦1.81 billion, intercepted at the Tin-Can Island Port in Lagos.

Babafemi said the shipment arrived from Montreal, Canada, on September 12 and was placed under surveillance following intelligence received by the agency. A joint physical examination involving NDLEA operatives, the Nigeria Customs Service and other security agencies was conducted on September 16, leading to the discovery of the cannabis concealed in 31 black jumbo bags inside two Toyota Sienna vehicles in a 40-foot container.

In Delta State, NDLEA operatives arrested 49-year-old Innocent Ekpe along the Benin-Onitsha Expressway in Asaba, where 292.48kg of skunk was allegedly recovered from his Toyota Sienna bus. Babafemi said investigations indicated that Ekpe had allegedly impersonated a Deputy Superintendent of Police, using a forged identification card to evade scrutiny at checkpoints. His alleged accomplice, 39-year-old Nduka Joseph, was also arrested. In Edo State, operatives reportedly recovered 48kg of Canadian Loud and 152g of methamphetamine from an auto-repair workshop on Agbor Road, Benin City, where 45-year-old Matthew Ossai was arrested.

Other operations resulted in the recovery of more than 1.1 million tramadol tablets and capsules, codeine syrup, methamphetamine and Exol tablets from two suspects along the Abaji-Abuja Highway. The drugs were allegedly being transported from Onitsha, Anambra State, to Mararaba, Nasarawa State. Further seizures included 48,900 tramadol pills in Lagos, 59kg of cannabis intercepted at a logistics company, 998.38kg of nitrous oxide gas recovered in Apongbo, Lagos, and 154,480 tramadol capsules seized in Gombe State. NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), commended the officers involved and urged them to sustain intelligence-driven operations and a balanced approach to drug control across the country.
