Following completion, the Ogun State government has revealed plans to concession a portion of the aerotropolis’s infrastructure at Gateway International Airport in Remo. However, Capt. Dapo Olumide, the manager of the agro cargo airport, said in a recent meeting with airport correspondents that three companies have shown interest in managing the Gateway International Airport in Remo, Ogun State.

He added that businesses are vying for concessional operations in the aeropolis, which is anticipated to host a variety of international aviation.

However, the concession needs to be explained, you know. Many individuals are unaware of what concessioning is. For example, when you hear that Lagos is getting a concession, it is not true. It is the terminal building, not the airport, that is being concessioned. The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) will always own the runway.

“The taxiways will never stop being fantastic. However, the terminal building’s functions will be concessioned. This is the same. We are concessioning the airport’s infrastructure. In that it is essentially an aerotropolis, this is somewhat different from Lagos. Additionally, the fact that it is an aerotropolis increases its appeal to concessionaires.

He added that following concession, the concessionaire is free to construct anything they choose on top of the runway, master plan, and business strategy that they have already seen here.

For instance, you would respond, “I have observed it is an aerotropolis,” if you were interested in taking this airport’s concession. You are authorized to operate an aerotropolis. That implies I have a choice in the kind of hotels I stay in. Marriott can be added here. Sheraton can be placed here. Which side of the airport should it be on, and how many rooms can I do? I would like to construct a swimming pool. I would like to do this. Since it is an aerotropolis, you can do anything you want. That is the reason it appeals to concessionaires in addition to the terminal. Olumide further clarified that airports greatly increase revenue because passenger traffic is the main source of income for aerodromes in Nigeria. However, he pointed out that for an airport such as Ogun Airport, revenue will also come from cargo and aeropolis.

From the standpoint of the passenger, it will not be a major source of income. Due to the general lack of homes in Nigeria, it will be the main source of income from freight and the aeropolis. Lagos, as you are aware, is costly due to the lack of land. Thus, you construct offices, residential buildings, and housing estates here. You will notice that DHL, Microsoft, and other companies have offices in aeropolises around the world.
