Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party’s 2023 candidate for governor of Lagos State, has disparaged the changes implemented by President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
According to the NEWSWORLD, Mr. Tinubu has started a number of reforms since taking office in 2023, including the elimination of fuel subsidies, the floating of the naira, and the reduction of energy tariffs.
The government has insisted that the changes are working even though they have caused the nation to enter a more severe economic crisis.
However, Mr. Rhodes-Vivour claimed in an interview on Channels TV that the alleged reform primarily helps the president’s buddies and those he appoints. “The people are going through unheard-of difficulties. Nowadays, consumers spend more than 70% of their money on food and transportation. They have not even begun to consider how they will pay for housing. There is a culture of wastefulness and excess that has to change and does not reflect the catastrophic economic condition that the president is advocating.
The president’s buddies, government officials, and bankers are the only ones who appear to be gaining anything from these policies. How many Nigerians can claim that they are currently benefiting from any reform? Mr. Rhodes-Vivour also announced during the show that he would run for governor of Lagos in 2027. He declared that he will not give up on becoming the governor of Lagos State. “By God’s grace, certainly,” he said in response to the presenter’s question on whether he will run for governor in 2027.Given the complete state capture currently taking place in this nation, I think it will be a waste of time to run in 2027 if all parties do not cooperate.
We can not afford to keep the opposition apart. My current responsibility is to make sure that the Labour Party is a powerful party.
