The NSCDC said it has mobilised 10,000 additional personnel from 10 neighbouring states and the Federal Capital Territory to reinforce security across Osun’s 30 local government areas. The corps also deployed specialised units, including the Special Intelligence Squad, SWAT, K9 Unit, Crack Squad and Specialised Female Squad, while senior officers, led by Deputy Commandant-General Ayuba Phillip, will supervise operations in the state.
NSCDC Commandant-General, Prof. Abubakar Audi, directed personnel to remain neutral, professional and work closely with other security agencies, warning that political thugs and anyone attempting to disrupt the election would face the full weight of the law.
Meanwhile, armed soldiers have taken over security at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters in Osogbo, supported by three Armoured Personnel Carriers, as election materials continue to arrive in the state.
INEC’s Osun Public Relations Officer, Musa Olurode, said the commission has completed 12 of the 13 activities on its election timetable and is fully prepared for the August 15 poll. He added that sensitive election materials will be distributed to the 30 local government areas on Thursday, ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
