Power tussle in Osun: APC directs LG chairs to reclaim offices

The All Progressives Congress (APC) branch in Osun State has instructed chairmen on the party’s platform, who were allegedly reinstated by the February 10 Court of Appeal ruling, to return to work in their local government secretariats on Monday.

In order to avoid any conflicts or legal breakdowns, Governor Ademola Adeleke instructed chairmen and council members elected in the Saturday local government election not to return to their respective council areas during the swearing-in of the chairmen and counselors on Sunday in Oshogbo.

However, in a statement issued by the party’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, the APC asked the LG chairmen to ignore false information that was making the rounds on social media and cautioned them from returning to their positions in the state’s 30 local government secretariats.

According to the party, anti-democratic groups were responsible for the development.

The party also urged guardians and parents around the state to caution their kids and wards from being enlisted as political thugs by angry and unsuccessful politicians who are out to disrupt the state’s tranquility.

“We have noticed false information on social media, which was spread by a purportedly democratic state government, stating that the APC leadership in Osun State has instructed its elected local government chairmen and council members not to return to their respective local government council areas tomorrow,” the statement said.

“We wish to notify the legitimate local government council chairmen and council members who were rehabilitated by the Court of Appeal that the prestigious leadership of our party did not provide any such information.

It is the product of regressive individuals that think that spreading false information to mislead our elected, focused council leaders and bosses will help them realize their irrational political goals.

“We want to be very clear that in order to continue helping the underprivileged at the local level of government, the elected APC local government chairmen and council members must return to their respective local government council regions. Since the APC is a party built on the rule of law, your reinstatement is based primarily on the Court of Appeal’s February 10, 2025, ruling at the Akure Division in Akure, Ondo State.
