Accuses Authorities of Silencing Opposition as SDP Gains Momentum

The National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Shehu Musa Gabam, has accused Nigerian authorities of intimidation following the withdrawal of his security personnel. Gabam made the allegations in a video posted on his official Facebook page on Thursday, claiming that the decision was a deliberate attempt to weaken his political influence and silence voices advocating for good governance.

According to Gabam, his officially approved mobile police protection was withdrawn three months ago despite his entitlement as the leader of a registered political party.

Gabam Speaks Out Against Political Intimidation

Expressing his frustration, Gabam stated:

“For three months now, my officially approved mobile police protection has been withdrawn, despite my entitlement as the National Leader of a political party. I followed due process, applied to the IGP, and got approval, yet I am the only one whose security detail has been removed.

“This is not just about me; it’s about the deliberate attempt to silence voices fighting for good governance. But let it be known, no level of intimidation will stop our movement for a better Nigeria!

“If anything happens, the government owes the people an explanation. Our mission is clear: justice, fairness, and progress for all! Now is the time to stand together! Join the movement for real change.”

His remarks suggest growing tensions between opposition figures and the ruling establishment, with fears that political intimidation could undermine democratic processes ahead of future elections.

SDP’s Growing Influence Sparks Political Tensions

Gabam’s claims come at a time when the SDP is gaining national attention, particularly after former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and his allies defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the party. With speculations of a potential opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections, the SDP is being viewed as a rising force in Nigeria’s political landscape.

Political analysts believe that the party’s increasing prominence may be unsettling to those in power, prompting attempts to suppress its influence. If Gabam’s allegations are true, it could raise serious concerns about political freedoms and fairness in the country.

As the 2027 elections approach, observers will be watching closely to see how the political landscape evolves and whether opposition parties can successfully challenge the status quo.
