Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has launched the Ogun State chapter of the Iru Ekun Security Network, a community-based security initiative aimed at tackling kidnapping, banditry and other criminal activities across the South-West.

The inauguration, held on Wednesday, attracted hundreds of supporters, while reports indicated that thousands of people had expressed interest in joining the initiative. Participants were seen wearing matching black outfits and caps during the event.

Igboho said the security network would operate in collaboration with government authorities, stressing that members must maintain discipline and avoid abusing their positions. He said the Federal Government would determine the agency responsible for training the volunteers, while the Ogun State Governor’s Office would decide their deployment after training.

The activist also disclosed that members would be issued identification cards at the local government level and that the Ogun State Government had assured the group of support. According to him, the state government would determine a monthly allowance for members to help them support their families while performing their duties.

Igboho urged members to operate within the law and said the initiative could eventually develop into a formally recognised security structure similar to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) if properly managed.
