President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has accepted the resignation of the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Mr. Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, who stepped down amid recent allegations against him.
Nnaji, appointed in August 2023, submitted his resignation letter on Monday, thanking President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve. He explained that his decision was to protect the integrity of the government and ensure an independent review of the allegations.
“I have become the target of political blackmail and orchestrated attacks by opponents. These distractions are inconsistent with the dignity of public office,” Nnaji stated in his letter.
In accepting the resignation, President Tinubu commended Nnaji’s contributions to national development, especially in promoting innovation and technology.

A statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, conveyed Tinubu’s appreciation for the former minister’s service and wished him success in his future endeavours.
Before his appointment, Nnaji served as a Commissioner in Enugu State and was known for his work as a technology entrepreneur.
He had been leading several reform initiatives in the country’s science and innovation sector prior to his resignation.
