ABUJA, NIGERIA — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday met with the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Muttaqha Rabe Darma, at the State House in Abuja.

The meeting focused on the management and disposal of properties seized by the EFCC across the country, with particular attention to ensuring transparency and accountability in the process.

The State House media office disclosed the meeting in a statement issued on Tuesday night, stating that the discussions centred on establishing proper procedures for handling and disposing of houses recovered by the anti-corruption agency.

The statement read: “Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Olanipekun Ola Olukoyede, and Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Muttaqha Rabe Darma, met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the management and disposal of seized houses nationwide, under the rules of transparency and Accountability at the State House, Abuja. Tuesday, August 18, 2026.”

The meeting comes amid renewed attention to the Federal Government’s handling of assets recovered through investigations into financial crimes, particularly the need to ensure that seized properties are disposed of through transparent and accountable processes.

It also comes shortly after President Tinubu intervened in the dispute between the EFCC and the Osun State Government over the freezing of state government accounts.

The EFCC had obtained an order to freeze some Osun State Government accounts on August 5, days before the governorship election, citing an investigation into the alleged mismanagement of ecology funds, intervention funds and allocations received from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC).

The funds under investigation were reportedly worth approximately ₦11 billion.

The Osun State Government subsequently approached the Federal High Court in Abuja, challenging the freezing order and seeking its nullification as well as ₦2 billion in exemplary damages.

The state also accused the EFCC of conducting what it described as an unsubstantiated “witch-hunt” against the government since March.

However, following his victory in the Osun governorship election, Governor Ademola Adeleke said he had directed the state Attorney General to withdraw the lawsuit against the EFCC.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Adeleke credited President Tinubu with helping to resolve the dispute.

“I’m putting them behind. What else do I want? I have instructed my Attorney General to drop it. Mr President has done well. He called me. What more do I want?” Adeleke said.

The latest meeting between Tinubu, Olukoyede and the Housing Minister was not specifically linked by the State House to the Osun account dispute. The Presidency said the focus of Tuesday’s engagement was the management and disposal of seized houses nationwide.

The development highlights the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to establish clearer mechanisms for the management of properties recovered from individuals and organisations in connection with financial crime investigations.
