According to a resident, Auwal Kazagi Rogo, the incident occurred at approximately 7pm, when residents reportedly heard Bilkisu raising an alarm.
Kazagi told Daily Trust that neighbours rushed to the scene after hearing her cries. He said she allegedly told them that her husband had been slaughtered.
However, the resident claimed that those who arrived at the scene found Gausu with a head injury rather than the kind of wound initially described.
He said the deceased was lying in a pool of blood and had suffered a blow to the head from an object. Kazagi also alleged that there was a bite mark on Gausu’s ear.
The circumstances and cause of the fatal injury have not been independently established, and the allegations surrounding the incident remain subject to police investigation.
Background to the Alleged Second-Marriage Dispute
Kazagi said Gausu had reportedly become engaged to another woman and intended to marry her as his second wife.
The plan allegedly triggered repeated disagreements between the couple, with Bilkisu said to have opposed the proposed marriage.
According to the resident, elders in the community had previously intervened in an attempt to resolve the dispute. However, the disagreement reportedly persisted despite their efforts.
Sources in the area further claimed that Gausu had asked the family of his fiancée to bring the wedding date forward by two months, allegedly because of the opposition from his wife.
These accounts have been presented as claims from local sources. Police have yet to publicly establish whether the reported marital dispute was directly connected to Gausu’s death.
Police Arrest Suspect as Investigation Continues
Following the incident, residents reportedly alerted the police, who subsequently took Gausu’s body away as part of the investigation.
Bilkisu was later arrested and is being treated as a prime suspect, according to the report. Her arrest does not, in itself, establish criminal responsibility, and investigators are expected to examine the available evidence as they work to determine what happened.
No final findings or formal conclusion on the circumstances of the death were included in the report.
Gausu was buried on Saturday morning in Rogo in accordance with Islamic rites, following his death on Friday evening.
The deceased and Bilkisu had reportedly been married for nearly seven years and had two children together. The report also stated that Bilkisu was pregnant with Gausu’s child at the time of the incident.
The case has left the family and community facing the loss of a husband and father, while the police investigation continues.
Authorities are yet to publicly provide a full account of the incident, including the precise sequence of events that led to Gausu’s fatal injury.
The outcome of the investigation is expected to clarify the circumstances surrounding the death and determine whether any criminal charges are warranted.
