The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that young people in the Nyanya area of Abuja were selling their kidneys for money.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, made the clarification in a statement issued on Wednesday, describing the reports as false and stressing that the police had neither received nor confirmed any report of kidney sales or human organ trafficking in the area.

Adeh said the circulating claims also alleged that an agent in Mararaba, Nasarawa State, was purchasing kidneys from young people in Nyanya. She, however, stated: “The Police Command in the FCT wishes to categorically state that it has neither received nor confirmed any report of such nature. No statement or communication to that effect has emanated from the command.”

The police spokesperson urged residents to disregard and stop circulating the unverified information, warning that such reports could cause unnecessary fear and panic.

She, however, encouraged anyone with credible information concerning alleged human organ trafficking or other security concerns within the FCT to report promptly to the nearest police station or contact the command on 07038979348 or 08028940883.
