ABUJA — The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) have announced a one-time ₦4,000 fee for candidates seeking admission into Nigerian universities, polytechnics and other tertiary institutions to verify their WAEC O’Level results.

The two examination bodies disclosed this in a joint statement issued on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, explaining that candidates whose admission processes are handled through JAMB will complete their WAEC result verification through the JAMB platform.

Under the new arrangement, once a candidate’s O’Level result has been successfully verified, the verified result will be made available to the tertiary institution where the candidate is seeking admission. The ₦4,000 payment therefore covers the verification process once, regardless of the number of institutions to which a candidate applies.

JAMB and WAEC have also directed tertiary institutions to rely on the verified O’Level results transmitted through JAMB when conducting admission screening, processing applications and handling other related administrative activities.

The examination bodies specifically warned institutions against demanding additional payment from candidates for the same verification exercise.

“Tertiary institutions are to utilise the verified results shared by JAMB for screening, processing candidate admission and other administrative purposes. Candidates shall not be required to pay for another verification,” the statement said.

The new system was recently introduced by JAMB to enable candidates to upload and verify their O’Level results remotely from home or any other location with internet access, thereby reducing the need for candidates to undertake separate verification exercises at different institutions.

The development is expected to streamline the admission process and prevent candidates from incurring multiple verification charges as they seek admission into tertiary institutions across the country.
