“Hookup Lifestyle is Dangerous,” Security Chief Advises Students

The Lagos State University (LASU) has issued a strong warning to its students, particularly females, against engaging in prostitution, commonly referred to as “hookup.” The warning was delivered by LASU’s Chief Security Coordinator, retired CSP Oluwole Ojo, during a lecture at the 2024 Modular Year Sandwich Degree Programme Orientation Ceremony held at the university’s main campus in Ojo on Friday.

Ojo cautioned that engaging in such a lifestyle often leads to dangerous and undesirable consequences, urging students to prioritize their studies instead.

“You will find out that those who engage in hookup usually end up dead if care is not taken. I advise you to desist from it,” he warned.

The security chief assured students of their safety on campus, emphasizing that CCTV cameras had been installed across the university to monitor activities and protect students, staff, and visitors. He also encouraged students to report any security threats to the appropriate authorities for immediate action.

Vice-Chancellor Encourages Self-Discipline and Hard Work

Following the orientation lecture, LASU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, congratulated the newly admitted students during their matriculation ceremony. Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Adenike Boyo, the VC commended them for choosing LASU and assured them of quality education and a fulfilling academic experience.

Prof. Olatunji-Bello further urged students to be cautious in selecting their friends, emphasizing that bad friendships could negatively impact their academic success.

“Bad friends destroy good habits. Also, shun deviant behaviors that could truncate your academic career,” she cautioned.

She reiterated LASU’s zero-tolerance policy for cultism, examination malpractice, corruption, and hooliganism, warning that any student found guilty of such offenses would face strict disciplinary action.

“As you embark on this new chapter of your life, I encourage you to set goals, stay focused, and never lose sight of your dreams,” she added.

In his address, the Director of LASU’s Directorate of Sandwich Degree Programme, Prof. John Adeogun, encouraged students to work hard and maintain a balance between their studies, social engagements, and work commitments.

“As you begin your studies as bonafide students of LASU, be assured that you have the same rights and privileges enjoyed by our regular students,” Adeogun noted.

“I therefore encourage you to strive for excellence by carefully apportioning the amount of time you spend on your books, social engagements, and workplace tasks,” he added.
