The University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED) Alumni Association, Ondo, has unveiled the theme and logo for the inaugural Olusegun Mimiko Distinguished Alumni Lecture scheduled for October 2026.

‎The lecture, themed “Advancing Health Equity and Innovation: The Legacy of a Caring Heart,” is designed to celebrate the vision and enduring legacy of the founder of the institution, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko.

‎Unveiling the theme, the Vice-Chancellor of UNIMED, Professor Ebunoluwa Adejuyigbe, said it reflected the “caring heart” of Dr Mimiko and his vision in establishing the university.

‎Professor Adejuyigbe acknowledged that Dr. Mimiko’s vision had positioned UNIMED at the forefront of excellence in medical science education and healthcare delivery in Nigeria and beyond.

‎The Vice-Chancellor said she assumed office with a clear vision to reposition the university as a centre of excellence in teaching, research and community service.

‎According to her, “It was to make UNIMED a centre of excellence in teaching, research and community service. It was to make it a household name whose impacts reverberate across nations and generations. It was to make it a global brand.”

‎The paediatrician said she would leverage technology to make UNIMED more accessible to the world, adding that she hoped to be remembered for contributing to the relocation of the university to its permanent site, making it one of the top-rated universities in Nigeria and positioning it as a global brand.

‎Earlier, President of the UNIMED Alumni Association, Prince Adedayo Adesida, represented by the Vice-President, Adebanke Ajagunna, said the distinguished lecture was conceived to strengthen the alumni community while honouring Dr. Mimiko’s foundational vision.

‎He described the former Ondo State governor as a visionary whose investment in the institution had created opportunities for generations of medical and science professionals.

‎“Dr. Olusegun Mimiko didn’t just build a university; he planted a tree so that a whole generation of medical and science professionals could sit in its shade,” Adesida said.

‎The event was attended by principal officers of the university, alumni, invited guests and students.
