Military personnel storm facility over electricity disconnection
The management of Ikeja Electric has reacted to the invasion of its headquarters by the Nigerian Navy, stating that the incident created chaos and disrupted operations at the facility.
It was earlier reported that on Thursday morning, military personnel stormed the Ikeja Electric headquarters, located opposite MITV in Ikeja, Lagos, at around 7:40 AM. Witnesses claimed that armed officers in military uniforms not only barricaded the premises but also allegedly assaulted employees and other individuals present.

Company Responds to Military Action
In response to the attack, Ikeja Electric’s spokesperson, Kingsley Okotie, released an official statement condemning the harassment of its staff and explaining the reason behind the Nigerian Navy’s disconnection from power supply.
According to Okotie, the military premises were disconnected not only due to unpaid bills but also because of other operational concerns, including safety risks.
“The disconnection was not just about non-payment. There are operational factors at play, including serious safety concerns for our staff.
“We have faced incidents of harassment, making it increasingly difficult for our staff to work in such conditions,” he stated.
Military Barricade Linked to Unpaid Debts
Reports indicate that the Nigerian Navy’s action was linked to unpaid electricity debts owed to Ikeja Electric. However, the situation escalated into a confrontation, raising concerns about the use of military force in civil disputes.
The incident has sparked widespread reactions, with many questioning the appropriateness of military intervention in a billing dispute. Meanwhile, Ikeja Electric has called for a resolution that ensures the safety of its workers while addressing outstanding issues.
More updates to follow as the situation develops.
