Gunmen have shot dead popular comedian and media personality, Isaac Nwosu, popularly known as ‘Aiza Nwosu’, alongside an unidentified middle-aged man in separate attacks in Awka, Anambra State.

The victims were reportedly killed on Sunday night, August 30, 2026, at S.M. Okeke Street, Amaikwo, and Capital City Road, Amaenyi. According to preliminary police findings, three unidentified men travelling in a silver-coloured Toyota Corolla carried out the attacks. An eyewitness alleged that the assailants trailed Nwosu from his residence, double-crossed his vehicle and opened fire. The motive for the killings remains unclear, although some residents reportedly suspected a possible cult-related attack.

Confirming the incident, the Anambra State Police Command said patrol teams were immediately deployed to the affected areas after receiving reports of the shootings. Police recovered the bodies of the two victims, along with ₦7,550, a Moniepoint ATM card and a pair of slippers. The victims were taken to a hospital, where they were confirmed dead.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Ama, condemned the killings and ordered the case transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Awka, for a discreet and comprehensive investigation. He also directed intensified patrols, surveillance and intelligence gathering across Awka and neighbouring communities. The command urged residents, community leaders, motorists and business owners with information about the suspects or the vehicle used in the attacks to contact the police.
